Our Explorer Unit planning continues and, as previously mentioned, can be a joint unit with another local group from Buckminster Road. They are very much in the same position as the 43rd:

  • Limited number of leaders available.
  • A small number of Scouts in the Explorer age range at the same time as the 43rd Scouts.
  • Availability of meeting venue.
Buckminster Road Scouts meet on a Monday evening with 43rd Scouts meeting on a Wednesday.
Neither group has much capacity for holding Explorers on the same night as Scouts due to timing and availability of hall space.
The new additional hall space we have acquired at the 43rd is now being used on Wednesdays for our Scouts and will most likely continue to do so.
We have now secured hall space at Buckminster Road HQ on a Thursday evening which whilst not necessarily convenient for all of their Monday night or our Wednesday Scouts, it is nonetheless available at a good local location with excellent facilities.
So following discussions with our own Group Scout Leader and Scout Leader we are most likely going to now move forward, planning on using this new venue on Thursday evenings.  We will also hold occasional joint-meetings on Mondays and Wednesdays to help the joint Unit keep it’s ties with both Scout troops.
Any parents or Scouts with concerns or questions – please feel free to get in touch using this email link: explorers@43rd.org.uk

Other items we are looking at include a new neckerchief for the Unit, using colours from both the 43rd & 86th groups existing neckers and the possibility of a Scouts branded hoodie type sweat top for the Explorers to wear when not needing full uniform.
